On the first day of his resurrection, Jesus met two distressed, confused people walking on the road from Jerusalem to the village of Emmaus. They didn’t recognize him. He joined their walk, slowing to their pace. He asked what they were talking about and explained Scripture to them in ways that mesmerized them. When they reached Emmaus, he broke bread with them. Then they saw who he was, and they were amazed.
Of all the things that Jesus could have done on that day, he chose to go for a walk with two friends.
Jesus still walks with us on our sometimes painful and confusing journey of life. He comes alongside us, slows to our pace, listens to our confusion, and gives us words of promise.
What if we think about counseling as a walk down the road with a companion, during a time of need, with Jesus walking alongside?
God loves to transform our mourning into joy and our ashes into a crown of beauty. If you’re exploring the idea of counseling for yourself or for a friend or family member, I hope that you’ll feel free to reach out with questions or to talk.
